Fairytale Ending

It’s sound-soaked echoing past midnight at the Once-Upon-a-Time diner with twenty-four hour lights and the promise of coffee that’ll burn down your stomach tonight. Cinderella’s playing quarters in the jukebox and wasting three minute songs on herself, still refilling Styrofoam cups to save the world. Don’t listen to what they tell you on the streets; they’re just all waiting on the six a.m. light to come so they can have a better look up at the concrete sky.
The suffocation of monoxide drinks in paper-folded reality and drains her dry so that she’s waiting in fluorescent aisles of grocery stores for

Glass MermaidsToday is October, the spicy cold tapping on window and I confess to bitter reasons
to fall back asleep
and never wake up again.

Instead, I find myself
pretend-swimming
through autumn-tinged trees;
glass mermaids beside me
as we glide between indigo branches.

Ripples like movement, they are most beautiful
when I am looking in opposite directions, and everything is distorted so reality seems not so absolute in comparison.

Journal Entry: Wed Nov 18, 2009, 9:25 PM

Something I learned about myself today: I don't like clam chowder soup even though the picture on the label looks delicious and it has enticing words like "smoky bacon flavour."

The lesson I learned today was that if I dislike all seafood, then I shouldn't be buying clam chowder.

I also realized today that I don't read books anymore. The only thing I read these days are textbooks and emails from my profs. I haven't actually read a real book in months.

Yesterday, Christmas music was playing in the store while I was grocery shopping. I am excited for the holiday season but I have no idea what to get my sister for a gift.

Too much to do and not enough time or patience.

It has dawned on me how much being "grown up" sucks. I miss high school.
